Multi-agency adult support and protection conferences (case conferences)

Multi-agency adult support and protection conferences (case conferences)

last update on: 08/31/2023

A course supporting professionals to understand and improve practice in multi-agency adult support and protection conferences (commonly referred to as case conferences).

Learning objectives/outcomes

  • Case conferences are understood to be person-centred – where the adult at risk of harm is the focus, rather than professional processes.
  • Adults are involved throughout the case conference, are supported before and after it takes place, and have a method to express their wishes, feelings, and issues that matter to them.
  • Professionals are clear on the purpose of a case conference and what makes it effective.
  • Professionals are more attuned and responsive to the issues that matter to adults at risk, their families and carers.
  • Professionals are more aware of different perspectives at a case conference, understanding what each attendee’s role is and why it’s important.
  • Professionals understand the possible impact of a case conference on an adult at risk, and how to mitigate this.
  • Professionals are confident and well-informed, supporting improved practice in case conferences.

Target staff groups for the training

  • Any professional working with adults at risk who wishes to learn more about case conferences including social workers, health professionals, advocates, the police, and those in the voluntary sector.

Please note: Due to the sensitive nature of some of the material contained in this resource, access is restricted to those with a suitable professional interest in the subject, and will be restricted to those with appropriate local authority or NHS email addresses, or those from suitable associated organisations, only.
